Littlethorpe WI Open meeting May 2007

LITTLETHORPE WI

We had a  full house  at our OPEN MEETING in May.  Eight other Institutes in a six to eight mile radius of Littlethorpe were invited to hear our speaker, Sir Thomas Ingilby, the present custodian of Ripley Castle, tell us about  Living in a place like this.? This was not a detailed account of the history of the castle but a fascinating, humorous and thoroughly entertaining account of life in the twenty first century with it s good days and bad. He was congratulated on winning a silver award in the national tourism  Oscars  in the small attractions section. Kath Ching gave a vote of thanks. A book written by Sir Thomas about Ripley Castle and other small attractions in the area were on sale and soon snapped up by members .A sumptuous supper was provided by our own members.

After our guests had departed a small amount of business was dealt with. This included the discussion on the AGM Resolution urging H.M. Government to stop the closure of Community Hospitals, which provide essential services to local people. Georgina, our representative at the National Federation AGM in London on June 6th.was asked to vote for the Resolution.

Owing to essential repairs to the Village Hall in the month of August our meeting on the seventh will be an outing. Further details later. Eight members had enjoyed the visit to the Ainsty Farm Shop at Green Hammerton.

Next meeting will be on Tuesday 5th June 7.30pm in the V H when Mrs M Douglas talks about beaded jewellery, their materials and history, and gives a small demonstration. Everyone is most welcome to come along.
