At a special Service on Wednesday 5th March 2008 at 7.30pm,

Canon Michael Glanville-Smith

was licensed as Priest with Pastoral Responsibility for Littlethorpe,

within the Parish of Ripon Cathedral.

The Service was conducted by James, Bishop of Knaresborough,

assisted by Dean Keith Jukes.

 St Michael's Church, Littlethorpe

During the Service which was conducted by Canon Peter Garner, there were two dedications.

 

The tree, Ilex aquifolium, ARGENTA MARGINATA or silver leafed Holly which has been planted, in

appreciation of twenty years exceptional ministry by Canon Herbert Batey,

and the Oak Alms bowl, from Robert Thompson at Kilburn ( the Mouseman)  

to mark the memory of Leon Smallwood.

The alms bowl, will be used at the West End of the Church for baptisms, weddings and funerals.

 

Canon Herbert Batey was unfortunately unable to be with us for the occasion, but Muriel Smallwood was present.

 St Michael's Church, Littlethorpe was built in 1878 - The cost of the Church is quoted as £800 - 14s - 2d in original documents.
The necessary funds were raised by the villagers of Littlethorpe, and the church was consecrated on Easter Tuesday 1878.

*** In September 2006 Ripon Motor Boat Club celebrated its 75th Anniversary and presented a window to St Michael's Church to give thanks for this event.

The window was dedicated on October 22nd 2006 in a Service led by Canon Peter Garner and Canon Herbert Batey.
